Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
and
Submission Wrestling
Our program
Focuses on two main aspects: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for the bottom game and Submission Wrestling for the top game.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you'll learn sweeps, guard work, and submissions to effectively attack and defend from the bottom. The goal is to control your opponent and create opportunities for sweeps or submissions.
Submission Wrestling emphasizes takedowns and top control. You'll master maintaining dominant positions and applying top-heavy pressure to set up submissions.
Together, these elements provide a complete ground-fighting skill set, whether you're on top or working from the bottom.

What to Expect in Class:
At Kombative Concepts, every class is designed to help you grow both physically and mentally, while developing essential grappling and submission skills. Here’s what you can expect in a typical class:
Warm-Up and Mobility Drills:
We start with a dynamic warm-up to prepare your body for training. Expect exercises that improve flexibility, agility, and strength while focusing on injury prevention.
Technique Breakdown:
Our instructor will walk you through new techniques, demonstrating key positions, submissions, or transitions. You'll practice these moves with a partner, focusing on precision, control, and proper mechanics.
Drilling:
After learning the techniques, you’ll perform repetitive drilling to commit the moves to muscle memory. This is where you develop timing, flow, and smooth execution.
Classes typically end with live rolling or sparring sessions where you can apply what you've learned against a resisting partner. This is where you test your skills in real-time, refining your techniques and strategies.

Instructor Background:
At Kombative Concepts, our head coach has the unique distinction of lineage under two legendary martial artists—Sensei Erik Paulson, the founder of Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW), and Professor Rigan Machado, one of the top authorities in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Additionally, through training with Professor Rigan Machado, our program benefits from a deep understanding of the technical and strategic elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, enhancing our ability to blend grappling disciplines effectively. This combination allows us to offer a truly comprehensive grappling education.
We pride ourselves on continuous learning and research, incorporating the best techniques from multiple grappling arts such as wrestling, catch wrestling, and more. Whether developing a dominant top game or a resilient bottom game, our CSW program provides students with the skills and knowledge to excel. At Kombative Concepts, we're committed to quality instruction and the growth of every student.
