Where Striking and Grappling Come Together

Mixed Martial Arts at KCMA is the culmination of our broader curriculum. Boxing, Muay Thai and Savate develop striking, while Combat Submission Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu develop takedowns, positional control, escapes and submissions. Focused classes allow students to strengthen each area, while MMA training teaches them how to connect those skills and move effectively from one range to another.

How Our Mixed Martial Arts Training Comes Together

How Our Mixed Martial Arts Training Comes Together

Our MMA program at KCMA is built around Erik Paulson’s proven MMA system, drawing heavily from Combat Submission Wrestling and Shooto. Rather than simply mixing unrelated arts together, KCMA’s curriculum provides a structured method for connecting Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling, clinch work, takedowns, throws, ground control and submissions. Shooto’s emphasis on fluid transitions between striking, grappling and quick finishes further strengthens this approach, giving students a complete training method designed for the demands of modern Mixed Martial Arts.

Do you face any of these challenges?

  • Want to improve self-defense in real-life situations
  • Need a system that adapts to your body type and strengths
  • Tired of rigid, traditional styles that feel outdated

Mixed Martial Arts

Erik Paulson’s MMA system connects striking, clinch work, wrestling, takedowns, ground control and submissions through a structured curriculum designed to develop smooth transitions, sound decision-making and adaptability across every range.

Shooto 2.0

Shooto is a pioneering Japanese combat-sport system that combines striking, takedowns and submission grappling, emphasizing attack combinations, fluid transitions and quick finishes between standing and ground fighting.

I've been to several martial arts schools over the past decade, and KCMA is by far the best. From your first class, it's clear that Coach Keith's knowledge and expertise are exceptional. He's a true martial arts professional who genuinely cares about his students' growth in both combat skills and discipline. Coach Keith always makes himself available before and after classes to review the curriculum and help us fine-tune our form. If you're serious about leveling up your skills and abilities, this is the place to be.

I have been training at KCMA for a few months now, having primarily looked for a gym that offers CSW. As an experienced martial artist who has trained at various academies in various arts/systems, I feel I can gauge the quality of instruction fairly well. I have to say that coach Keith is a very experienced martial artist, who, through his competence, personality, and open-mindedness has already made me better not only at grappling, but also at boxing and kickboxing. The atmosphere at KCMA is very open and welcoming, and even people completely new to martial arts are not overwhelmed or intimidated by what is being taught and how it is being taught. At the same time, experienced practitioners and competitors are being challenged and met at their level, so they can continue to progress. I’m looking forward to continue my martial arts journey at KCMA and would recommend this academy to anyone who is interested in building or advancing a martial arts skill set for themselves or their children.
